How to Choose a Lawn Mower
Dec 16, 2025
A small garden can be mowed with either a hand push, mains electric or robotic lawn mower. If you have a medium-sized or larger lawn, then you should consider a battery-operated, mains electric or petrol machine. If the power cable is not an issue then make sure it is long enough to extend to the end of the garden.
The first step in choosing a lawn mower is to understand the characteristics of the lawn. The area of the lawn will affect your choice of engine horsepower, and the characteristics of the lawn terrain determine the performance of the lawn mower.
(1) The choice of lawn mower should be determined according to the size of the lawn, terrain, obstacles and how to deal with the cut grass. If the lawn area exceeds 2000 square meters, please choose a self-propelled lawn mower to reduce labor intensity and improve efficiency. The terrain is undulating or slightly sloped, and a self-propelled lawn mower can also be used. When there are flower beds, shrubs or hedges in the lawn, please choose a lawn mower whose front wheel is a universal guide wheel. The grass collecting or shredded grass mulch in the three-in-one cutter head is particularly suitable.
(2) The choice of lawn mower also depends on the function of the lawn. Greens and tees of golf courses use greens and tee mowers; fairways and sports field lawns, such as football fields, rugby fields, etc., are the best choice for hob mowers, or rotary knife mowers. Use rotary knife mowers for general green areas and landscape lawns; use suspension mowers for golf course slopes; use brush cutters for forest lawns or lawns with many obstacles (ie, knapsack-type lawn mowers) machine).
